A special opportunity to view this brand new, controversial documentary on the city of Rio de Janeiro, before it goes out to film festivals worldwide. The screening is followed by a Q&A with Director Julien Temple. Rio 50A? / Carry On Carioca sets out to X-ray the noir soul of this tropical paradise and find the violent darkness and despair that lurks within the sunlit shadows of the carnival city. Using the everchanging rhythms of carioca music itself to narrate the tale, the film explores Rio’s explosive journey from the end of slavery to the brink of staging both World Cup and Olympics, taking us on a time travelling rollercoaster ride through a series of incendiary highs and truly terrifying lows.
