The Brazilian virtuoso pianist Marcelo Bratke juxtaposes the godfather of the European canon of classical music JS Bach’s ‘Partitas’ with the new world ‘Bachianas’ of Villa Lobos. Probably the most prolific of Latin American contemporary composers and an ‘enfant terrible’ to the establishment, nevertheless, like Bratke, Villa-Lobos is renowned for his exuberant and colourful visionary landscapes. A piano recital that is set to thrill classical connoisseurs and newcomers to this vibrant repertoire alike.

Featuring the unique voice of soprano, Maya Sapone, and specialist Iberican pianist, Helen Glaisher-Hernández, TangOpera’s latest project, Songs To Die For, offers a definitive guide to Latin America’s most passionate classical melodies with a programme including works by Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, Santoro and Guastavino.
