Release

Livia Mattos – a Bahia-born musician famous for being Chico Cesar’s accordion player – is the star of the Midsummer night. In her solo work, Livia combines her accordion with regional influences and cosmopolitan Brazilian music, mixing sounds like ska and rockabilly with folk rhythms, but still influenced by traditional sounds, such as polkas, waltzes, and boleros guarânias. Livia draws attention by her humorous compositions and for being one of the few women accordion players who are well known in Brazil. Before learning to play accordion, Livia began her artistic career in a circus, as an acrobat. Her shows combine regional and cosmopolitan influences of Brazilian popular music, achieving a unique sound, toying with rhythms that are no longer being played on the radio but remain vibrant in audiences’ memories.
