The event enunciates the fight for rights of children of Brazilian immigrants across the world. On the day is celebrated Childrenai??i??s day in Brazil, Sunday 12th October, sons and daughters of Brazilian immigrants from anywhere in the world will have their voices heard with the I International Seminar of the Migrant Child, which theme is ai???Brazilian Childhood Voices in Londonai???. The Seminar takes place at the headquarters of the European Comission, based at 32 Smith Square, London SW1P 3EU.
Under the coordination of the Theatre Co. Teatro do Oprimido, from Braga, Portugal, children will be invited to take part in the Seminar Theatre, a modality of the Company, created by playwright Augusto Boal. The theater will involve children with actors seeking solutions to questions arised in the play.Besides the Seminar, the Association Projeto Criar (APC) will also exhibit their work. The entity currently provides legal support, protecting childrenai??i??s rights in Portugal.
The lawyer and APC vice-president, Dr. Leonor Valente Monteiro, will give a lecture regarding childrenai??i??s rights. Children born in Brazil residing in other countries are able to take part in person or distant at the I International Seminar of the Migrant Child. Children of Brazilian parents living with them abroad are are also welcome, as well as non-Brazilian children who are friends with Brazilian children subscribed in the Seminar; and also adults who develop or wish to develop projects in defence of childrenai??i??s rights. Children can already take part in the Seminar, sending their drawings, writings, pictures, audio or video about their daily experiences. The authors of the best narratives will be awarded a trip to their wished destination. This Seminar is another opportunity to voice children through their various means of expression. ai???It is necessary to detach the Childrenai??i??s Day from the commercial pressures and give it back to the Brazilian child as a date related to rightsai??i?? acquisition: the right to have a specific day dedicated to them. A date obtained in 1924, by presidential decree. A year when Society of Nations adopted the Geneva Declaration, related to childrenai??i??s rights, considering them entitled of respect, protection and freedom. The I International Seminar of the Migrant Child has the goal of attending recomendations such as thoseai???, sums up Denise Hosana Moreira, researcher in Childhood Sociology and lecturer at Universidade Estadual do PiauAi??.
