Swinging Latin, Brazilian and Tropical rhythms over two floors. Movimientos presents two unmissable live acts Maracatu Estrela Do Norte and Orchestre Du Mont Plaisant at our always crazy and joyous Dalston venue, Passing Clouds. Upstairs the Udigrudi DJ Collective bring big retro Brazillian party vibes through the night.
Maracatu Estrela do Norte are a London-based group who perform music from the Pernambuco region of northeast Brazil, and trust us it’s amazing. Maracatu de Baque Virado is music dates back hundreds of years and is rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture. It combines the alfaia (bass drum) whose powerful and syncopated rhythms punctuate the beat of the caixa (snare drum) gongue (cowbell), and abê (shaker). YES.
Orchestre Du Mont-Plaisant are a baroque group born in London, bringing together global rhythms and dramatic cinematic scores. Skillfully instrumental, they play blues and dance, with influences soaring between Ethiopian jazz, Congolesesoukous and Cumbia. The band has already toured and performed in France, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro and the BBC6Music studios in London… Highly recommended listening!!
