Atuando em Londres: Márcio Mello

Latissimus Companhia de Teatro apresentou duas comédias tchecas “On The Harmful Effects of Tobacco” e “The Bear” em uma só “Put that in your pipe and smoke it”.
Estes “farsa vaudevilles” vieram com uma mudança absurda comparado com as produções Chekovian que eu tinha visto. Rápido e engraçado que destacar o quão estranho e maravilhoso é a condição humana.
Eu me encontrei com ator brasileiro Márcio Mello após o show para descobrir como ele encontra trabalho e de vida na Grã-Bretanha.
Márcio foi o primeiro aluno brasileiro a estudar na Escola Central de Expressão e Drama. Perguntei porque o gosto de atuar em Inglês, ele respondeu: “É como estar em um trapézio sem a rede de segurança” e acrescenta “Eu tenho feito isso por um longo tempo e as audiências estão aceitando muito.”
Márcio estudou teatro físico e tornou-se muito procurado como professor de teatro físico em Escolas de Teatro na Grã-Bretanha e passou a dirigir muitas produções. Ele começou Latissimus Companhia de Teatro como uma reação a isso, a fim de escolher as peças que queria dirigir e executar dentro Latissimus que é uma Empresa Internacional de Teatro baseado no Sudoeste de Londres. O objetivo é oferecer Teatro Britânico e Internacional com os mais altos padrões profissionais.
Mas porque essas peças? Resposta Chekov de “The Bear” foi “Eu consegui escrever um vaudville estúpido que, devido ao fato de que ele é estúpido, está desfrutando de sucesso surpreendente.” Ainda continuei curiosa para saber porque Márcio tinha escolhido estes jogos particulares”: “Bem, eu estava em São Paulo discutindo teatro com alguns amigos, um dos caras na mesa que eu tinha acabado de conhecer, virou-se para mim e disse ‘você é o Urso’. Eu não podia acreditar que este homem, que eu tinha acabado de conhecer conseguiu supor meu personagem em segundos” diz o brasileiro. Tendo-se reunido Márcio eu certamente não iria fazer comparações demais entre ele e auto Chekov iludido “misógino”, mas eu suponho que é o que o torna perfeito para o papel.
O ator também foi disposto a trabalhar com o diretora Valerie, visto que no passado, ele já gostava do jeito que ela deu abordagem intelectual ao texto, respeitando os impulsos e instintos dos atores para a motivação de caracteres. Mesclando o intelectual com a prática. “On The Harmful Effects of Tobacco” é apenas parte de um projeto maior que Márcio está trabalhando, eventualmente abrangendo três das peças de um ato de Chekov.

Here Latissimus Theatre Company are presenting two of Chekovs one-act comedies “On The Harmful Effects of Tobacco” and “The Bear”.
These ‘farce vaudevilles’ were a welcome, absurd change to Chekovian productions I had seen in the past; fast paced and funny they highlight how strange and wonderful the human condition is.
I caught up with Brazilian actor Márcio Mello after the show to discover how he finds working and living in Britain. Márcio was the first Brazilian student to study at the Central School of Speech and Drama. I asked him what its like to act in English, to which he replied ‘Like being on a flying trapeze….without the safety net” But he says ‘ I have been doing it for a long time and audiences are very accepting’ Márcio studied physical theatre and became a much sought after physical theatre teacher across Drama Schools in Britain and went on to direct many productions. He started Latissimus Theatre Company as a reaction to this in order to choose the plays he wanted to Direct and Perform in. Latissimus is an International Theatre Company based in South-west London which aims to deliver British and International Theatre to the highest professional standards. But why these plays? Chekov’s response to ‘The Bear’ was “I’ve managed to write a stupid vaudville which, owing to the fact that it is stupid, is enjoying surprising success.”I was curious to know why Márcio had chosen these particular plays “, “Well, I was in São Paulo discussing theatre with some friends, one of the guys at the table that I had just met, turned to me and said ”you are the Bear”. “I couldn’t believe that this man, who I had just met had managed to surmise my character in seconds”. Having met Márcio I certainly wouldn’t draw too many comparisons between him and Chekov’s self deluded ‘misogynist’ but I suppose that is what makes him perfect for the role.

Márcio was also keen to work with Director Valerie having seen her work in the past he liked the way she took an intellectual approach to the text while respecting the actors impulses and instincts for the characters motivation. Merging the intellectual with the practical. ‘Put That in Your Pipe and Smoke It’ is just part of a larger project that Marcio is working on, eventually encompassing three of Chekov’s one act plays.
