Choro in Roda is a collective of Brazilian and international musicians based in London. It celebrates the best of instrumental music in a memorable evening at Tia Maria, a Brazilian restaurant and music venue. ‘Choro’ (cry or lament) was the first urban popular music played in Brazil, a fusion of European and African musical styles and rhythms. Also known as ‘chorinho’ (little cry), the happy and energetic music style is played in the Roda (circle), an interactive popular setting with a great variety of instruments.

Choro in Roda keeps the tradition of virtuous solos and improvisation from the best ‘rodas de choro’ from Brazil, adding up other styles as Baião and Samba.

Choro in Roda editions are sponsored by Contemporânea, a musical instrument manufacturer world leader in Brazilian Percussion. Choro in Roda is organized by Alua Nascimento, a Brazilian percussionist and vibraphonist, who has teamed up with some of the UK’s best instrumentalists to bring London well-known choro standards and original compositions.
