FILM SUMMARY
The film focuses on the life and work of radical Brazilianplaywright Augusto Boal (1931-2009) and maps the evolution of the Theatre of the Oppressed, which has spread to almost 80 countries since the 1970s. Augusto believed the performing arts can transform not only the individual but also society, and with the Theatre of the Oppressed he set out to achieve this by breaking down the barriers between actor and audience, encouraging the latter to express their ideas and desires, and to pursue collective liberation through political action. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Tereza Briggs-Novaes and Sergio Amigo.
2011 | 62 minutes | Documentary | Portuguese with English subtitles | Directed by Zelito Viana.
