Action for Brazil’s Children Trust (ABC Trust)
Action for Brazil’s Children Trust (ABC Trust) is the largest charity in the UK dedicated to helping street children and the most vulnerable young people in cities across Brazil. By raising awareness and funding we support the work of local, community-led organisations, which give children, their families and communities the education, support and inspiration that they need to transform their lives. ABC Trust’s work is both preventative: supporting projects that stop children from reaching the streets through child care facilities and educational opportunities, and responsive: getting children off the street and providing support, health care and legal advice. We bring together international charity standards and practices with local understanding and knowledge. Established in 1998, we have supported 25 project partners, reaching over 18,000 children & their families With incredible patrons from the worlds of music, football, dance and film we open up new horizons using culture and sport to change lives.
Happychild.org (Happy Child) is a British NGO working to ensure that Brazilian children and adolescents at risk and abandonment are housed, rehabilitated and reintegrated back into their families and communities. In twenty years of work in Brazil, more than 9,500 children were rescued and reunited with their families or adoptive families. There are 14 homes in Belo Horizonte and Recife offering full time care for children and adolescents who have been victims of violence and abandonment. Happy Children works in partnership with local government, private sector and individual donations. 100% of the children are reintegrated back to education, 95% are reintegrated back into their families, 5% are adopted or remain with Happy Child until they acquire full professional education and employment.
