For those who follow Culturart, will have seen our piece on the Minister of Culture, Marta Suplicy, who came to London in December 2012. During her short visit she visited the Southbank Centre, the Victoria and Albert Museum and delegate the partnerships made between the United Kingdom and Brazil during the Olympics 2012. On that occasion, the minister took the opportunity to speak with the main spokespeople of the Brazilian community and acquaint herself with our experience in London- since she had only been in the position for two months. Culturart was one of the spokespeople, as it was present with the press. To read some of our suggestions to Marta Suplicy look below.

As we are already in July 2013 and nothing has been suggested by the Embassy related to the project Ceu das Artes (mentioned in the interview), Culturart decided to try and contact the institution’s Cultural Department. Unfortunately, however, it did not managed to secure any future collaborations with the Embassy, or receive from it any financial or institutional support. However, during the meeting, we were told something of great importance to all Brazilians living in London; all people, artists or not, can present a cultural project to the Embassy until October. This can be in order to obtain financial support to be able to do the project, or to request a physical space for the event or piece.
Focus Brazil, an annual event that awards ‘members of the Brazilian community in Europe’, will be carried out for the third time at the Brazilian Embassy’s head quarters on the 19th, 20th and 21st, probably because of this opportunity created by the Cultural department. For those interested in applying for their projects to be evaluated by the Embassy with regards to using the space, follow this link:

However, bear in mind that it is necessary to present the project before October this year and the link that we have indicated is most suitable for modern art projects and designers. If this is not your area, note that in the linked PDF you can find the contacts for those responsible for other cultural areas.
