Thousands of people brought together at Notting Hill Carnival 2013

The yearly Notting Hill Carnival is the biggest carnival in Europe and generally brings together participants from Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago to celebrate Caribbean culture. Brazilian culture is also present in the Notting Hill Carnival. Paraiso Samba School was highlighted by the main news-sources covering the event, including the BBC. The School used the theme “theatrical magic” and their pure Brazilian style to celebrate the Carnival. The elaborate costumes and floats were inspired by the Shakespearean era. The school’s samba theme-tune was sung like a hymn by the dancers as they partied along the streets of Notting Hill on a sunny bank holiday Monday.

Paraiso Samba School’s 2013 presentation was tinged with a special light and magic as its participants included the singers Wantuir Tavares da Portela, Lucinha Nobre, Porta bandeira da mocidade, Ana Paula Evangelista, Rainha de bateria da mocidade and Nelcimar Pires, da Salguiero. Elderly and disabled revellers enjoyed their own wing of the parade. The purpose of the festival is for parades and thousands of people to follow the carnival’s myriad of rhythms.
