Dear readers, if you would like to get to know the diversity of Brazilian culture a little better, this is your chance; this May, between the 8-13, London will host the sixth Brazilian Film Festival. The Festival, which according to the team will be annual forever, is presented by Brasil Sensational and sponsored by Embratur and the Ministry of Tourism. The festival has already taken place in 5 different cities (Buenos Aires, NYC, Miami, London, Montevideo and Rome) attracting up to 100.00 people ever year. It’s coming up! It will be 11 features and 9 short films, plus a new strand celebrating the centenary of Vinicius de Moraes, with a dedicated selection showcasing films about the life of the poet and composer who revolutionised Brazilian music and fathered the genre Bossa Nova alongside composer Tom Jobim. FROM COMEDY TO DRAMA, INCLUDING SEBASTIAO SALGADO AND CITY OF GOD The Brazilian Film Festivalai??i??s gala opening will feature the World Premiere of Never to old to say Meow, with acclaimed actress Regina Duarte leading the cast as a retired and complex author who, after 12 years of reclusion, decides to open her house for an interview with a journalist (actress Barbara Paz), announcing her come back to the literature scene. The movie is the first feature film of director Rafael Primot, known for his works in Brazilian television and video clips. Closing the festival is Bald Mountain(beautifully directed by Heitor Dahlia), one of the most celebrated Brazilian films in 2013.Ai??The film follows the story of two men inAi??Serra Pelada,Ai??one of the largest mines in the world, where faith, love and ambition will change their lives forever. CITY OF GOD: TEN YEARS LATER, is a sensitive and funny documentary about the movie that turned into an instant cult movie all over the world, and what happened to the young boys and girls who were feature in the film, ten years after it first hit the screens. cidade de Deus_ Other film festival highlights include TATTOO(dir. Hilton Lacerda), a movie about an unexpected love affair between a young military man on duty during the dictatorship period in Brazil, and a provocative man who runs a flamboyant theatre company in Recife, called ChA?o de Estrela; FIRST DAY OF ANY YEARAi??(dir. Domingos Oliveira) a ai???Woody Allen styleai??? comedy starting at a New YearA?s eve party hosted at a journalistsA? home with interesting plots developing during the event; THE INVISIBLE COLLECTION Ai??(dir. Bernardo Atal) a drama about a young men in search of a collection of rare drawings;Ai?? THE DOGNAPPER, (dir. Pedro Amorim), a Brazilian comedy recounting the life of a couple and their dog; And ORFEU, a classic Brazilian movie from 1999, and adaptation of the play Orfeu da ConceiAi??A?o, by Vinicius the Moraes, placing the Greek legend of Orpheus in the present time in Rio de Janeiro, during carnival. Rounding up the schedule, is VINICIUS ai??i?? THE MOVIE (Directed by Miguel Faria Junior), based in the life, music and poetry of Bossa Nova master Vinicius de Moraes. All features are followed by a short movie presented prior to the main screening. A prize for the Crystal Lens Award Best Audience Film will be awarded on the final night of the festival chosen by the audience by votes after each session.

Once more films and gastronomy will mingle, with the return of Brazilian Taste, a celebration of the countryai??i??s gastronomy with dishes inspired by Brazilian cuisine and offered by 7 different partnering restaurants across London. The Brazilian Film Festival opens with a great party on 08th May , in truly Brazilian Style at McQueen Shoreditch ai??i?? a venue inspired by the late American actor Steve McQueen, ai???the King of Coolai???.
